The Victorian Walk in Guthrie, OK

The weekend before last I went to Guthrie, OK to be a part of the "Victorian Walk" they have every year at Christmas. If you don't know much about Guthrie it was the Territorial Capitol of Oklahoma, until the state seal was stolen and taken to Oklahoma City . . . it was a political thing . There are still many Guthrieites who are still quite angry about that whole terrible mess, but the town still comes together to turn the downtown area into a magical, Victorian town just like it was when it was the first Capitol city of our fine state.

This is me in my BEAUTIFUL and very expensive Victorian dress. I had a petticoat and everything!!! I even had those fantastic black lace up boots on underneath my dress. I ordered the dress from a wonderful dressmaker on the internet and she hand made this one especially for me! Just like in the Victorian days! I was getting worried when it didn't come in the mail right away like most packages do. I felt like Clark Griswald when he didn't get his holiday bonus check and then finally it came. . . the day before I was supposed to wear it! I was so relieved!

James was there too and he dressed to the 9's as well. I think we made a very lovely Victorian couple. He was so excited the whole time we were there. We really had a good time.

Here we are with a community coalition member and her three sweet daughters. The whole reason why we were even a part of this Victorian Walk was so we could provided information to the passers-by about our coalition. We knew that there would be many that would come out for this event and we thought it would be the perfect opportunity to pass our information to the community about the Logan County Partnership. The girls did a great job passing out flyers to everyone that walked by. James and I walked up and down the streets handing out candy canes and gingerbread cookies. The wrappers had stickers on them with information about the coalition. It was an easy and fun way to get the word out.

Everyone was taking pictures of us and we even ended up in the Guthrie newspaper! It was really cold that night so we could only walk up and down the streets for a bit and then we had to go inside a store to warm up. The wind was just terrible and it cut right through you! I wanted to take pictures of the store windows that had live people doing different things with a Victorian theme, but there were so many people on the sidewalks I couldn't get close enough to get good pictures. If you are ever in Guthrie, OK during the holidays you just HAVE to check out the Victorian Walk. It is free and a lot of fun!

My Christmas Cottage Bathroom

The cottage has been decorated now for a few weeks and I finally got around to taking some pictures so you could see how it turned out!

I decorated each room of the house this year because I was filled with some extra Christmas spirit. I even decorated my sweet little bathroom!

I love this little vingette on my bathroom wall. The Santa is a glass ornament I bought last year and he is wearing a PINK coat if you can believe it. There just aren't enough Santa's our there that are secure enough in their manhood to wear pink. That's why we have to paint them all, just like I painted that sweet snow lady ornament on this shelf . . . she used to be red and green!

I think my bathroom is so sweet and pretty. I loved how my tree turned out. It is pink, of course, and I bought it last year. I used bright pink and silver on her this year and it seems to suit her perfectly!

I got those sweet pink and silver deer at Michael's and they work just perfectly in this room! I'm so glad I went ahead and got them because they were in my basket but I almost put them back. I'm so glad I didn't!

The whole room is decorated for Christmas! It is so relaxing and wonderful to sit in the tub with only the Christmas lights on the tree illuminating the room. I could sit in there for hours . . . if I had the time!

Here is another look at the sweet bathroom tree and a close up below of some of the ornaments. It turned out so beautifully this year and I get so excited every time I have to go in to the bathroom because it is just so pretty in there!

My Fall Cottage

I can't believe there are only 38 days left in this year! Where did the time go? It seems like just yesterday we were coloring Easter eggs. So fall is upon us now and winter will soon be knocking on our door. I took all of the cute Halloween decorations down and packed them into their special plastic bins, hauled them up to my perfectly organized attic and got the fall decorations down so I could adorn my sweet Oklahoma cottage in the appropriate style to celebrate this wonderful season of . . .

I took some paper mache letters and covered them with beautiful fall scrapbooking paper, then added a beautiful garland of fall leaves to decorate this shelf.

You can see from this picture that things have changed. No more black and white! And Miss Molly (my mannequin) got a new place in the room. She is now the official door greeter, waiting to welcome you when you walk through the front door.

I love the way decorations can completely transform a room. I had so much fun decorating this sweet fall cottage. Every nook and cranny got a pumpkin or leaf or something to make it feel more like fall inside.

My fireplace mantle is just stunning this year. I wish you could see it in person. I put orange Christmas lights underneath the decor and when you turn off all the lights a soft amber glow is emitted from this foliage. It is so much prettier in person!

I had quite a collection of pumpkins this year and my favorites are made from taffeta fabric. They are on this table with the ivory doily. They are so beautiful!

Here is Miss Molly all decked out for the fall. My mom gave me this sweet dress and I added some embellishments for the season. I made the roses from ribbon that adorn her hat. Isn't she lovely?

The kitchen got a fall makeover too. The rooms usually get cleared out until they are bare and I add pieces back in as I decorate. It is so much fun to have a new space to live in by being creative with your design!

Even the tops of the cabinets got some new decor. I just love how it all turned out!

My little cottage is so sweet and cozy, especially in the fall because of all the warm, inviting colors we get to use. I can't wait to get home from work every night to play and rest in my sweet nest.

Here is the dining room table and the china hutches. They are just as sweet as the rest of the house! I especially love the dishes I used for the tablescape.

Don't you just love these sweet turkey plates? I used a round fall place mat, a gold charger, a Rose Point dinner plate, and that sweet turkey plate to finish the ensemble. So lovely!

Here is the hutch that holds my Rose Point china collection, well most of it anyway! It is always so fun to try to come up with creative ways to decorate everything so it all works together.

The larger china hutch usually holds my seasonal dishes and then other decor to fill in. This season's china is some brown transferware that was made in England. I think it is called "stagecoach" because it has a stagecoach scene on it. I think they are beautiful!

The china blends in perfectly with the other fall decor and garlands of leaves. I think everything turned out so lovely in my sweet fall cottage this year!

Pink Pumpkins

Happy Pink Saturday My Sweet Blogger Friends!

I was actually able to find some pink to post this Saturday but I had to create it myself! That was so much fun!!! My mom Ginger inspired me with her pretty pink fall pumpkins so I decided to try my hand at it to decorate up my pretty dresser in my bedroom for the fall. This is what I came up with. This is a ceramic pumpkin that was white. I gave her a lovely shade of pink paint, some glitter, and some beautiful embellishments to decorate her up. I think she is so pretty . . . and she has a baby!

Here are mama and baby pumpkin together. I used a different kind of glitter, shade of pink paint, and some different roses for baby. I think they turned out so pretty!

Here is another view of the ceramic pumpkins all fu-fued up for the fall!

This is a flat wood pumpkin that was white and I painted, glittered, and embellished her too. And guess what? She has a baby too!


The baby wood pumpkin already lived with me and she was orange so I gave her some spurcing up and now she looks like she belongs in the family! I had a lot of fun embellishing these sweet pumpkins!

And last, but not least, is my version of the stuffed fabric pumpkin. I think I had the most fun making her because I got to start from scratch. I made two more, one bigger and one smaller, but they have not been embellished yet. Hopefully this coming week they will get finished and I will be able to show you how they turned out.

Trunk or Treat 2010

I can't believe three weeks have already passed since Halloween but I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to share these great pictures with you of my fun time at my church on the Saturday before Halloween. I don't know how it was in your community, but in mine there were tons of things going on all weekend for Halloween. My favorite event was the "Trunk or Treat" event that I coordinated at my church. Several church members decorated the insides of their trunks and dressed up to hand out candy to the community children that came to trick or treat.

James and I decorated the back of our trunk to look like Sherwood forest since we were Robin Hood and Maid Marian. We put a bunch of branches in the back first, then added the ghosts so the forest would look "haunted". Then we added a treasure chest of jewels that Robin had taken from the rich to give to the poor. James even made his own bow and arrows out of sticks that looked very realistic. I made a "wooden" plank sign (that you can't see in this picture) out of cardboard that said "Sherwood" and pointed to the inside of the trunk. Our trunk was one of the best and everyone that came by had a nice comment for us. This children, however, thought that we were Shrek and Fiona! I guess they are too young to know about Robin Hood.

The children were so adorable and I hope you got your fair share of cuties knocking on your door to give candy to. This Halloween was so much fun and this event was a huge success. Our church members donated 3 large trash cans full of candy. We had over 900 people from the community come out to our event. I was really pleased with the results. I guess this shows you what can happen when we all work together!

Happy Pink Saturday My Sweet Blogger Friends!

This Halloween I decided to decorate my sweet little Oklahoma cottage in the traditional holiday colors, so I had to take down all of my beautiful pink and roses down and pack them away. Although I miss them it is fun to have a change and it will be even more exciting when I get to bring all that stuff back out again for Christmas!

I decided to completely clear the room except the furniture and use black, white, and orange as my pallette. I think the rooms are really lovely.

I bought some different kinds of black and white fabric to make table covers and slips for my pillows so everything is accessorized for the theme!

I love how clean and polished everything looks. It's really amazing to think about how a room can be transformed depending on the dressing!

I had a lot of fun transforming my home into a posh Halloween cottage.

I know you've heard me say before that my mantle is always my favorite thing to decorate. This time was no exception. I think it turned out really cute!

I bought these candy corns from a catalog and added glitter so they would glisten.

I love this sweet lady crow with the Halloween hat on her head. I bought these books at a book sale for super cheat just because they were the perfect Halloween colors. I love this little vignette. This table turned out so cute!

Last year I bought these wooden letters and covered them with Halloween scrapbooking paper and embellishments. They are the perfect "sweet" accent for this shelf above my television.

Here is my lovely mannequin that I need to come up with a name for (if you have any suggestions, please leave me a comment) and she is all decked out for the Halloween season. I have so much fun dressing her up like a giant Barbie doll, which was my favorite toy as a child.

The kitchen didn't get a while lot of decorations this year because I ran out, if you can believe that, (now that's scary!!!) but I did decorate the dining area for the season.

My centerpiece is a real pumpkin in a footed bowl and some candlesticks I glittered (of course). So cute!

My china hutch in the dining room is also a favorite to decorate. It always looks just like a little gift shop for each season. I love how it turned out.

The center shelf is my attempt to honor our favorite Disney princess. So many little girls dress up like her on Halloween and hope to grow up to be her one day. Who doesn't love the . . .
